About Us

South Coast Building Consultancy was founded to provide clear, practical and commercially focused surveying advice across Hampshire, Dorset and the South Coast.


Led by Harjit Johal MRICS, we work with landlords, tenants, investors, property occupiers and managing agents across a wide range of commercial property sectors. Our clients value straightforward advice, responsive communication and a personal approach to property consultancy.


Having worked for several leading national and international property consultancies, Harj established South Coast Building Consultancy to provide clients with direct access to an experienced Chartered Building Surveyor who understands both the technical and commercial aspects of property ownership and occupation.

Meet The Team

Harjit Johal - MRICS, MCIOB, MSc 

Managing Director & Chartered Building Surveyor


Harj leads South Coast Building Consultancy and is responsible for delivering the surveying

and consultancy services provided by the practice.


Prior to founding South Coast Building Consultancy, Harj worked for several leading national and international property consultancies including Colliers and Faithful & Gould.

His experience spans dilapidations, schedules of condition, pre-acquisition surveys, project monitoring and commercial building consultancy services across a wide range of professional commercial property assets.


Harj holds an MSc in Building Surveying from Nottingham Trent University and is a Chartered member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and a member of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). 


He particularly enjoys advising landlords, tenants and investors on commercial property matters, with a particular interest in dilapidations, project work and historic buildings.


When not working with clients, Harj enjoys family time, exploring the countryside, visiting National Trust properties and making the most of the beautiful South Coast.

Jas Johal - MPharm, QTS

Marketing Director


Jas oversees marketing, client communications and business development for South Coast Building Consultancy.

She manages the company's website, marketing strategy, social media presence and client engagement activities, helping ensure enquiries are handled efficiently and clients receive a professional experience from their first interaction with the business.

Ashley Watton - BSc

Planning & Design Consultant


Ashley works alongside South Coast Building Consultancy providing specialist planning and design support on a range of residential and commercial projects.

His experience includes planning applications, measured building surveys, building regulations packages, change of use applications, architectural drawings and development support services.

Ashley helps ensure clients receive practical and coordinated advice throughout the planning and design process, supporting projects from initial concept through to approval and construction.


Graham Pope B.Eng, C.Eng, M.I.C.E, M.I.Struct.E.

Chartered Structural & Civil Engineer


Graham works alongside South Coast Building Consultancy providing specialist structural and civil engineering expertise when required.

With extensive experience across residential and commercial projects, Graham advises on structural inspections, structural assessments, structural design and technical engineering matters.

His specialist knowledge allows clients to access trusted engineering support alongside the surveying and consultancy services provided by South Coast Building Consultancy.
